Five years ago Mr Thac retired as a trade school teacher. He used his life savings to start a private vocational school in Hanoi. The subjects taught include tailoring, sewing machine repairs, electronics and mechanical repairs. The objective of the school is to train young people to obtain useful employment and ideally start their own small businesses.
Mr Thac had many applications from young people who were unable to afford the fees. Some of these people were from minority group backgrounds, living far away from Hanoi. Others had physical impediments, often as a result of Agent Orange.
The Glencoe Foundation has now completed its 5 years to provide undertaking scholarship.
In January 2008, Colin met up with two former students: Hung - Tam.
